BREAKING NEWS – St. Louis, Missouri – Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, chose to remain seated as the Pledge of Allegiance was recited in the Missouri Senate chambers. Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, a former GOP candidate for governor who presided over the Senate, released a statement calling Nasheed’s protest an “occasion for great sorrow.” He said he worried about “the example she is setting, particularly for our young people.” Nasheed responded by saying, “What I did was the right and proper thing to do. I am not going to honor a flag which represents the values that I disagree with, in a country that I hate! I’ll give more details about my position on this issue when I run for re-election.”
