BREAKING NEWS – Beijing, China – A Chinese company has cloned and reengineered the Beetle. Battery-powered carmaker VIDOEV unveiled a Volkswagen Beetle lookalike at the Shandong electric vehicle expo, and doubled down by making it a four-door. The Chinese auto industry is notorious for building knockoffs of foreign vehicles. VIDOEV responded to an angry letter from Germany which is where the Beetle was originally created, by saying “Cultures often borrow ideas from other cultures. For instance, China built the Great Wall of China 1300 years before the Iron Curtain was constructed to separate East and West Germany in 1945. And Genghis Khan murdered millions of his own people in the 12 century, yet we did not complain when Adolph Hitler came along and stole his idea, which clearly violated international copyright laws.”
