BREAKING NEWS – Orlando, Florida – A federal lawsuit filed claims Florida’s new “anti-riot” law violates several provisions of the U.S. Constitution, according to reports.
An Orlando civil rights attorney filed the suit in the U.S. District Court in Orlando on behalf of the Lawyers Matter Task Force, a nonprofit advocacy group. Defendants named in the suit include Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and Orange County Sheriff John Mina.
“The purpose of these laws are nothing more than an attempt to silence the Black Lives Matter movement and other civil organizations by limiting the ability and method to protest,” the attorney, Aaron Carter Bates, said in a statement, according to the Orlando Sentinel. “The First Amendment is a pillar of American democracy, and the ‘anti-riot’ laws clearly strip Floridians of their freedom of speech and right to assemble, while looting and torching police cars. Many people in the Revolutionary War in the late 1700’s lost everything to create this nation, so today’s business owners shouldn’t get a pass, and they should happily be subjected to the exact same thing!”
