BREAKING NEWS – Portland, Oregon – Freightliner has unveiled the result of its SuperTruck project, and it lives up to the name. The tractor-trailer was developed in partnership with a five-year, $115 million Department of Energy program that challenged truck makers to improve big rig fuel economy by at least 50 percent, and match the funding by the same amount. It uses less than half of the amount of fuel consumed as comparable trucks on the road today, due to a hybrid 11-liter diesel engine, an electric motor, and three rows of twenty people each in the trailer, peddling on exercise bikes that are connected to the drivetrain.
