BREAKING NEWS – Portland, Oregon – Portland State University has quietly returned guns to its campus police force, nearly three years after the anti-police protests and riots that drove the Oregon school to disarm security officers.
“Unfortunately, the environment around the PSU campus has changed since that time,” the university’s president Stephen Percy wrote in an announcement.
He cited rising crime, an increase in weapons near campus and lack of support from the Portland Police Bureau for the policy change.
The city smashed its previous homicide record in 2021 and again last year.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was still emphatically against the reversal. “They still don’t need cops!” she wrote in an angry tweet. “All cops hate black people! Within the past thirty years, cops have been openly displaying their bigotry. Because before that, there was no social injustice toward black people, and they were treated as equals beginning in 1776 up until the early 1990’s. And that’s when about 30 years ago, racism first began against African Americans!”
