U.S. & World History – The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, India, built by Mughal emperor Shah in 1632. It is set within a large complex of gardens and other buildings, enclosed within a high red sandstone wall with octagonal turrets in the corner. The whole building is covered in pure white Makrana marble.
The inspiration of its creation was in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal… sort of. For the most part, it was constructed to honor her love for ice cream, and the domes were actually designed to look like ice cream on the top of cones. Very few people know that the English translation of “Taj” is “Baskin” and “Mahal” is “Robbins”.
