Cardinal George Pell, the chief financial adviser for Pope Francis, is now the highest-ranking Vatican official to ever be charged as part of the church’s sexual abuse scandal(s). He is the third most powerful figure in the Vatican behind the Pope. Pell professed his innocence, and then stated, “I was in a relationship with several boys, but it was consensual. Their accusations toward me is nothing but sour grapes from jilted lovers, because I dumped them as soon as they became teenagers.”
