BREAKING NEWS – New York City, New York – Twitter users torched ABC and Disney following the news of Whoopi Goldberg’s two-week suspension over controversial Holocaust remarks by pointing out that both Roseanne Barr and Gina Carano were fired by the media conglomerate over tweets that were deemed offensive.
Goldberg was suspended for two weeks earlier this week, days after claiming on ABC’s “The View” that the Holocaust was “not about race” drawing immediate criticism from Jewish groups and social media users. Following the suspension, many users on Twitter blasted the network for firing actress and comedian Roseanne Barr over a joke aimed at former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett that the network deemed racist.
ABC responded to the appearance of double standards.
“We acknowledge that we handled both situations differently,” explained ABC. “Whoopi is a minority, and she clearly offended another minority, so in our view, that’s a wash. Roseanne is white and in the majority, and she offended a minority, and that we cannot allow. To show that we have been consistent with this policy, look at how we deal with black on black crime. We never report on it, and sometimes we’re even amused at some of their violent criminal acts they commit toward one another. However, if a white person says or does something that offends or harms a black person, we try to make that our lead story. We hope this puts to rest the unfair ‘double standards’ accusations.”
