Dear Blake,
I appreciate that my boyfriend takes care of himself, in part because he wants to look good for me, but I wish he were a little bit more like my father’s generation. When we went to a football tailgate recently, he refused to drink beer like the others — and whined the whole time that nobody brought a bottle of decent chardonnay. Also, his man bag — OK, it’s a purse — is bigger than my purse and he doesn’t even seem to be embarrassed about that. Am I being overly sensitive?

Dear Doris,
No you’re not being insensitive. I think you are just finally accepting the fact that your boyfriend is transitioning into a woman. Statistics have confirmed that any guy that carries a “man bag” in public, sleeps in a nightgown in private. And he was also bellyaching about no one bringing a bottle of chardonnay that met his standards? My guess is, he probably wouldn’t have opened it, because it might have scratched and ruined his fingernail polish. If he is planning to get a sex change, a lot of straight people won’t like him. If he’s arrogant and uppity, then gays and straights won’t like him. But if you really want to find out his true feelings on these gender issues, hold up directly in front of him, a current picture of Bruce Jenner. My guess is, either he’ll be disgusted, or salivating. I hope this helps.
