BREAKING NEWS- Sacramento, California – California is weighing a first-of-its-kind welfare program that would subsidize diapers for needy families. Assembly Bill 1516, written by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, a Democrat from San Diego, would create the taxpayer-backed program within the state’s existing welfare network, called CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids). Families that qualify for CalWORKS could be eligible for $80 a month to buy diapers for children under the age of 2. Senior citizens who are on fixed incomes that receive social security, reacted by saying that if the plan is successful, it should also be applied to them in reference to Depends.
