BREAKING NEWS – Champaign, Illinois – Stunning satellite images taken from University of Illinois’s Cryosphere project, shows the summer ice cap is thicker, and covers 1.7 million square kilometers more than 2 years ago. An area twice the size of Alaska that was open water in 2012, is now covered in ice. In 2007, as Al Gore accepted the Nobel Peace Prize for his campaigning on climate change, he stated that, “The North Polar ice cap is falling off a cliff. It could be completely gone in summer in as little as seven years. Seven years from now.” Gore responded to these recent images by saying, “As the former vice president, it is disrespectful for anyone to challenge my opinion and conclusions. And secondly, even if it is true, if it wasn’t for global warming, the Arctic ice cap would be getting thicker faster.”
