BREAKING NEWS – San Diego, California – A 92-year-old becomes oldest woman to finish a marathon. Harriette Thompson of Charlotte, North Carolina, completed Sunday’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego on May 31st, and was mobbed by well-wishers as she crossed the finish line. “I’m fine, they’re really pampering me here,” Thompson said in a firm, joyful voice as people all around her shouted congratulations. However, many other competitors weren’t so thrilled with the “accomplishment”. They said what officials in the race did not make public, is that she was given a slight head start, and actually completed the race the 31st of May, but she began on Thanksgiving of last year.
