BREAKING NEWS – Washington, D.C. – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., indicated to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) that they couldn’t outright call for things like a general strike amid the coronavirus crisis, but should slowly change public opinion before proposing “alternative structures” for society.
“You know, there’s a lot of people saying, ‘call for a general strike, call for a general strike,'” the freshman congresswoman said during a DSA video event on Tuesday. “The majority of Americans don’t know what a general strike is, so I would want them to consider the option of not going to work again, even after the coronavirus crisis has passed. I no longer believe that an employer has the archaic right to pay an employee whatever he or she thinks is fair and reasonable. The concept is stupid. Under “alternative structures”, that power goes to the employees. If that happens, people should be able to demand and receive raises, even if the new payroll numbers causes their supervisor to get a salary cut, and hopefully someday it’ll get to the point where a new hire is making a lot more money than the owner of the company.”
