BREAKING NEWS – Washington, D.C. – Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said that she will not support President Biden’s nominee to lead the Office of Management and Budget, Neera Tanden, dealing another blow to the odds of confirmation.
“Congress has to be able to trust the OMB director to make countless decisions in an impartial manner, carrying out the letter of the law and congressional intent,” Collins said in a statement. “Neera Tanden has neither the experience nor the temperament to lead this critical agency.”
“Ms. Tanden’s decision to delete more than a thousand tweets in the days before her nomination was announced raises concerns about her commitment to transparency,” Collins said. “Should Congress need to review documents or actions taken by OMB, we must have confidence that the Director will be forthcoming.”
Tanden responded to Collins’ assessment of her tweets. “It is my account, and I’m allowed to tweet or delete anything I want,” she explained. “I deleted certain tweets so during the confirmation hearings, the senators can focus on my qualifications, and not my contempt for certain ethnicities, or my desire for several men who dumped me in the past to drop dead or to brutally tortured until they agree to start dating me again.”
