BREAKING NEWS – New York City, New York – New York Democratic Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin resigned, the state’s governor said, after being arrested and indicted on charges in connection with his alleged participation in a scheme to obtain campaign contributions in exchange for securing a state grant.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she had “accepted Brian Benjamin’s resignation effective immediately.”

“While the legal process plays out, it is clear to both of us that he cannot continue to serve as Lieutenant Governor. New Yorkers deserve absolute confidence in their government, and I will continue working every day to deliver for them,” the Democratic governor said in a statement. “I think Brian Benjamin will probably play the race card, and allege that he didn’t do anything that Mafia in the Big Apple does on a regular basis. I’ve seen the evidence and he is pretty crooked, so he might have a legit argument in a court of law.”
