3 WISHES  (A song by Blake Grantham)

I was walking home from work one day
when I saw something on the ground
It was a really pretty bottle
and from that bottle came a sound

When I picked it up and held it close
I heard somebody shout
that they’ve been inside
for a thousand years
and would I kindly let them out

When I popped the cork I must admit
I thought it was a joke
But then I saw this lady come out the top
and was floating in some smoke

Bridge
      And I immediately said…
      You owe me

Chorus
      3 Wishes
You can make me a king
      3 Wishes
      You can do anything
Now that I have let you out
you must give me what I crave
And if the stories that I’ve read are true
you’re suppose to be my slave

Where will I live? What do I want?
The thoughts raced through my mind
That’s when I noticed that in her hand
she held a picket sign

She said there’s nothing she would rather do
than to give me what I like
But the Genie’s Union just broke off talks
and now they’re out on strike

Bridge
      She couldn’t give me

Chorus
      3 Wishes
She can’t make me a king
      3 Wishes
      She can’t do anything

I thought I’d be on easy street
      with problems small and few
      But her loyalty was strong
      to Local 722

Bridge (repeat)
Chorus (repeat)
