A few years ago, I was really embarrassed when I misunderstood something that a perfect stranger said to me. I was eating at a buffet, and after I finished the main course I went back for dessert. I was wearing some short pants at the time, and I thought a Caucasian woman made a comment directly to me, alleging that my legs looked awful.
