U.S. & World History – In 1791, the Bill of Rights, which spells out the rights of citizens and the limitations of government, was adopted and ratified by the states. Before it was added to the Constitution, it was rewritten and modified several times. At first, it was called the Bill of Rice, and was used to protect the average consumer from the constant overpricing of food at Chinese restaurants. Today, the 4th Amendment provides “freedom from unreasonable search and seizure”. But it used to state the maximum amount that could be charged for sweet ‘n sour pork and egg rolls.
