U.S. & World History – A little known fact about legendary British leader King Arthur, is he was instrumental in the creation of a certain Christmas song. During medieval times in the 6th century, one of his soldiers that had a very impressive singing voice was ordered to sing in front of homes during evenings in mid-December. He refused because he thought it was a dumb idea, and then he was told that if he disobeyed he would be promptly put to death. As soon as word went out of what may happen at dusk, large crowds gathered. When the soldier eventually arrived, he glared at everyone and refused to utter a word. But the people of the town wanted to hear singing so bad, that they broke up unto small groups, and sang in front of homes which started the tradition of caroling. Even though the soldier by his actions launched the tradition by being a “silent knight”, when he was executed through the use of bows and arrows, he also became a “holey knight”.
