U.S. & World History – In the Middle Ages, soldiers that wore metal plated armor were a very close group. They would regularly meet in the evening after a battle, and would bond together at a tavern by hitting each other with thick wooden sticks. This ritual became so popular, that musicians and other entertainers regularly performed at their social gathering. The spelling of their location has changed over the past 700 years, but the place where they met, and the wooden sticks that they hit each other with, were both referred to as a “knight club”.
