U.S. & World History – In the 1800’s, initially long distance communication was only used to send an apology. When a person said or did something that they regretted, rather than going back to the offended party on horseback, they would use a telegraph. The name of it changed after it gained popularity, but originally the method of transmitting messages was referred to as “remorse code”.
