U.S. & World History – A little known fact about the 4th of July, is on this very day, a man that lived in America, ended up starting a national franchise, after he was caught in 1776 selling his products exclusively to British soldiers during the Revolutionary War. After the 13 colonies declared their independence, this particular man turned his back on the small U.S. military and instead helped our enemy. When he was caught, he had a choice; to be hanged or to rename his store so anyone that who wanted to buy his products will know what crime he was guilty of. Rather than get executed, he renamed his store and opened up several more in New England, which is now nationwide. The original title still sounds the same even though over the years the spelling has changed, but initially it was called “Traitor Joe’s”.
