BREAKING NEWS – San Francisco, California – Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, took part Thursday in the annual Unthanksgiving Day on Alcatraz, which is a famous prison on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay, that was closed in 1963. “This is just another example of the deplorable judicial system in the country that I can’t stand,” he stated as he walked through the historic penitentiary. “And why incarcerate a person here? If a person was wrongly convicted, shouldn’t they be housed in a place that’s not surrounded by water, so innocent people have a better chance of escaping? Furthermore, I don’t think a judge should be allowed to sentence anyone. If it were up to me, I’d let the convicted criminal determine their own sentence, no matter what the crime. That way, he or she can get back on the streets sooner, to show society they have changed their ways. I refer to it as ‘progressive rehabilitation’.”
