BREAKING NEWS – Williamston, Michigan – Father Jonathan Wehrle, 67, was accused of embezzling millions of dollars from a Michigan parish he presided over to build his luxury home, where police said they found more than $63,000 stashed in the ceiling. Authorities seized the cash after the Roman Catholic priest was accused of embezzling millions from a local parish to fund the construction of his mansion, police said. His attorney Lawrence Nolan had several defenses. “From a business point of view, my client acquired less money than the Catholic church would have to pay out for one of their sex abuse scandals, so from that perspective, the Vatican saved money and should be grateful. And secondly, Jonathan Wehrle did not steal anything, but he viewed it as a loan, and he planned on paying back every penny, as soon as he arrived in purgatory.”
