BREAKING NEWS – Bismarck, North Dakota – North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp who is currently running for re-election in November, did not push to prosecute individuals responsible for physical and sexual abuse of students when she was the state’s Attorney General. She served as the North Dakota’s attorney general between 1992 and 2000, oversaw the North Dakota Bureau of Investigation’s probe between 1993 and 1994 into allegations of abuse at the Wahpeton Indian School (WIS), now known as the Circle of Nations School, a boarding school for troubled Native American students. “I did not prosecute the Native American’s when I was Attorney General, because I didn’t know what was right or wrong according to their customs,” she explained. “I contacted Elizabeth Warren back then to get some advice on how to deal with her people, and she told me she wouldn’t tell me anything, unless I first swore to keep a secret.”
