BREAKING NEWS – Washington, D.C. – Rep. James Clyburn, the House Majority Whip, was issued a fine for bypassing the metal detectors that were put in place outside the House floor to ensure that no guns and weapons are brought inside.

The fine for a first offense is $5,000. If Clyburn is fined again, the penalty increases to $10,000.

The House Ethics Committee made the rule violation public and also announced that Clyburn, D-S.C., would be appealing the fine.

“As a black man, I don’t believe those rules should apply to me,” explained Clyburn. “This is Jim Crow on Capitol Hill! I don’t think black people should have to produce an I.D. to vote, and I don’t the black members of Congress should be checked for guns or weapons. If I carry a firearm, it is to protect myself from the white members of Congress that I think will eventually falsely accuse me of carrying a weapon… or something like that.”
