BREAKING NEWS – Chicago, Illinois – Mayor Lori Lightfoot faced criticism last week after she responded to the recent flood of robberies in her city by blaming retailers for not better protecting their merchandise.
“We got to push retailers,” she said during a Dec. 6 event. “I’m disappointed that they are not doing more to take safety and make it a priority. But their biggest problem is, that they foolishly continue to sell desirable products. They should refrain from selling items that they know there’s a strong demand for, because that draws smash and grab criminals. I am urging the owners of these companies to sell only products that no one wants, or they risk thieves coming in, stealing everything, and putting them out of business.”
