BREAKING NEWS – Chicago, Illinois – Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s re-election was ridiculed by critics as her campaign touted her record on crime and sought the help of student volunteers in exchange for school credit.
Lightfoot announced she would seek re-election as the Windy City’s mayor in June 2022. Crime has spiked roughly 40% since she took office in 2019 and homicides rose to their highest numbers in 25 years in 2021 and she commented on those statistics.
“I don’t focus on the dead, I focus on the living,” she explained at a press conference. “Yes, many people in this city got bumped off, however this is Chicago. And I’ll bet you that many of the people that were senselessly murdered in this city don’t hold it against, because I have no doubt that quite a few of them will be voting for me in the next election!”
