THE RAIN  (A poem by Blake Grantham)

                 I
                 will always be lonely
Sometimes it’s more than I can contain
I am the one and the only
Whose only friend appears to be rain

                The rain
                 it never can hurt you
                The showers masquerade silent tears
Unlike the friends that desert you
                 It never patronizes your fears

                The sound
                of thunder’s not frightening
I know the clouds are speaking to me
I have no fear of lightning
I view it as a natural marquee

                I hate
                continuous blue skies
It forces me to think of the past
That’s when a small part of me dies
So I’d rather have a slight overcast

                I
                will always be lonely
Sometimes it’s more than I can contain
I am the one and the only
Whose only friend appears to be rain (just rain)
Whose only friend appears to be rain
