Due to the fact that referees have worked too many games during the regular season, they have to refrain from working one game during March Madness, or their organization will be forced to downsize. In other words, if they take a day off they won’t have to stay off, which prevents layoffs during the playoffs. (Ok, I made it up. In my alternate universe, weird thoughts are common place).
