My nephew in Chicago was recently stopped and questioned by a couple of officers on patrol, in regards to a crime he was accused of committing. He told me that one of them was pretty nice to him during the interrogation, whereas, the other one was constantly threatening to hit him with a Louisville slugger. This sounded to me a like a common tactic policeman use, referred to as “good cop/bat cop”.
