U.S. & World History – Peter Henlein (1485 – August 1542), from Nuremberg, Germany, is the inventor of the watch. He was one of the first craftsmen to make small ornamental portable clocks which were often worn as pendants or attached to clothing, regarded as the first watches. After he created his first one and tried to get investors to back him, they refused to give him any money unless the small time piece emitted a noise as the second hand moved. Henlein reluctantly honored their request, but was rumored to be very ticked off.
