BREAKING NEWS – Highgate, Vermont

American actor Randy Quaid was taken into custody Friday night while trying to cross into the United States from Canada, Vermont State Police said. The “Independence Day” actor was detained by troopers at the Highgate Springs port of entry days after Canadian officials said he would be deported. Quaid is wanted in Santa Barbara, California, to face felony vandalism charges filed in 2010 after he and his wife, Evi, were found squatting in a guesthouse of a home they previously owned. He told the police that he only intended to have a brief stay in the U.S.

Did you know that if you are planning on traveling to the United States, your Canadian Criminal Record (CCR) can deem you inadmissible and you can be denied entry? For Canadians with a conviction on their record, the method for removing a conviction involves applying for a Canadian pardon or a pardons Canada. This removes the conviction from the criminal record of the individual, meaning that the conviction will not appear during searches for the criminal record of the individual. However, this does not mean that the past conviction will be removed from the Customs and Border Patrol database.
