I still feel guilty over an awful miscommunication that caused a close friend of mine that I was campaigning to get repeatedly assaulted. When he told me that he wanted to become an assemblyman, I told him I would help him get elected by getting his name out there. The game plan was to have a location where he could interact with the public and answer their questions. It was a bad connection when I called a print shop and told them to print a sign that we would could display where he would speaking that read, “MEET THE CANDIDATE”. Because of the poor audio during the phone conversation, they printed “BEAT THE CANDIDATE”. Anyway, five days later when he regained consciousness, I tried to make light of the whole situation by saying that most of politicians in Washington, D.C. seem like they’re always in a coma. He didn’t verbally respond because the doctors said it maybe a couple of weeks before he’ll be able to speak, but he did make a hand gesture that suggested a level of hostility toward me. What the…
